It is no mystery that technology has advanced in recent years, and with each passing year, more thrilling and amazing innovations are created. In this article, I will discuss a multifaceted technology that is versatile and was developed by OpenAI, a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence research laboratory. This technology is GPT-3 ( Generative Pre-trained Transformer 3) and it is the 3rd-generation language prediction model in the GPT-n series.

GPT models have transformed the landscape of natural language processing (NLP) with their powerful capabilities in performing various NLP tasks. As a result, the response time is reduced while the accuracy is increased. Unlike state-of-the-art models, which are heavily trained on a large set of examples, these language models require very few, if any, examples to understand the task and perform with greater precision and creativity. GPT-1 has a parameter of 117 million, whereas GPT-2 has a parameter of 1.5 billion.

GPT-3 was launched in May 2020 and was still in beta testing as of July 2020. On September 22, 2020, Microsoft announced that it had licensed “exclusive” use of GPT-3; others can still use the public API to receive output, but only Microsoft has access to the underlying model of GPT-3. GPT-3 is now available to developers in supported countries as shown here. To read more on the announcement, click here

The model takes in a small amount of text and uses it to generate a large amount of high-quality copy and can be used to perform various tasks such as

  1. Creating an App: You can use the GPT-3 model to create an app; all you have to do is enter a description of your proposed site and let the model do the rest. Here’s an example of a GPT-3 powered website that can assist you in developing your app.- Debuild.co (click here to view the site).
  2. Content Creation: Creating content is a critical component of a powerful marketing strategy, and traditional content marketing methods are no longer adequate to meet the expectations of today’s competitive marketplace. GPT 3 can effectively create flawless content that could be mistaken for having been written by a human. This saves time while producing a high-quality article. All the user has to do is provide a summary of their expectations and the GPT-3 creates appealing content. To read more about the app powered by GPT-3, click here.
  3. Chatbots: A chatbot is a computer program or software that simulates human conversation through text or voice interactions. The use of GPT-3 bots in messaging services can provide a truly helpful response to a customer query. The GPT-3 generates a conversation that is nearly impossible to distinguish from that of live customer service representatives.

Many businesses use GPT-3 technology to generate content, articles, Marketing ads, analyze data, analyze feedback, generate websites, build resumes, and so on. Here’s a link to a 300 GPT 3 demo showcase.

GPT-3, an auto-regressive language model with 175 billion parameters.

Overall, GPT-3’s full version has a capacity of 175 billion machine learning parameters, making it the most powerful learning parameter to date. The model has many advantages, such as reduced time and increased efficiency; however, it is still a new technology, and its limitations and risks have not been fully understood. An area where GPT 3 technology has been identified as a threat and can cause more harm than good is the health sector, where it can predict diagnoses and act as a medical assistant. There is a chance that the user will receive an incorrect and harmful response. The machine learning engineers at Nabla (an all-in-one healthcare app for women) had the opportunity to test this new model using various cases; some responses for the admin assistant use case were appropriate, while others were not. Due to the severity of the health sector, I believe that a telemedicine service powered by humans would be the better option, and Reliance Health is a good example of a company that uses telemedicine as one of its strategies to provide health insurance that is delightful, affordable, and easy to access.
